Of course it would be a nasty idea to change this game if there wasn't an other, identical game to this one. Railer wrote:zuu, it's probably right that proposing a change like this would lead beyond the TTD-universe.Īt the moment I don't know, what is the aim of the OTTD-project? copying another game, a game what is developed by many others as well and in general still ahead of OTTD? is there a point in that, making new graphics engine when most people prefer the existing one, what has already so many new elements? Since there's the new map rewrite and new graphics engine projects going on, is it a right time to bring up this question? but it's not that freedom, excitement, challenge, maybe a new layout system could add a lot more in this way. are really good features, and I'm sure they are a lot of work to do. Building diagonal tracks under bridges, signals in tunnels etc. On the other hand it's obvious, that this game needs new elements that bring new excitement into it. By changing this we would lose a certain athmosphere of the game.
Of course I know, that TTD is TTD because of the current layout. I'm not for a too 3D-appeal - a game is a game because of its abstraction, there must be a compromise - but I'm sure there must be a better, more elaborated model that could look more real-world like. So the question is not that should we use hexagonals/triangles but rather that should we touch the current terrain layout, and if so, how could we make it even better?Īfter 10 years of TT, I think it could be time to step forward to a more sophisticated system allowing us a bit more freedom.
since then I found other topics with in-debth discussion (mathematical aspects, graphical models, etc), it's obvious, that touching the current terrain is a somewhat serious issue Please tell me what you think, let's play with the idea so I just ask, do you think it could be implemented somehow?īTW bees and wasps already use this architecture, because they think it's perfect!! I'm just a fan, not a programmer, but I have the feeling it's very much work to rewrite the map in this way. Alltaken's new tracks would work better with this layout, too) It could be especially for the new grapics engine, so that it's not only the same game with new graphics but with this feature we had a different, IMO a more advanced game - if we want to have our own GFX, we have to redraw things anyway. Could solve the problem with diagonal roads, bridges, tunnels, etc. We could have a much more beautiful, rounded track layout, allowing the construction of a more realistic-looking system. I think using this solution would boost up the whole game very much. I hope I remember well, that the land blocks were hexagonal there, like this: The idea comes from the early version of Sim City. This must be sounding like a revolutionary idea, but please let's think and talk about it a little bit!! (I hope it hasn't been discussed yet!)
